Children's Cardiomyopathy Foundation and One Beat CPR Awards New Portable AED to Winner of #MyCampAED Scavenger Hunt

Tenafly, NJ — January 13, 2015 — The Children’s Cardiomyopathy Foundation (CCF) announces the winner of their second annual #mycampAED scavenger hunt by awarding the winning camp, Angeles Crest Christian Camp, a Philips HeartStart Onsite automated external defibrillator (AED) to use at their year-round camp in Fullerton, Calif. CCF partnered with the American Camp Association (ACA) on the summer-long search to highlight the importance of not only having AEDs at all camps, but also of campers and counselors knowing their location and how to use it.

Participants from around the country entered the scavenger hunt by taking a photo of their camp AED and posting online with #mycampAED. At the conclusion of the hunt, the winner was randomly chosen from a list of camps which did not have AEDs to receive a portable AED from One Beat CPR + AED.

“Our camp is now a safer place for children and youth,” says David Crouse, Angeles Crest Christian Camp executive director. “Our camp is open year round and having an AED on site helps to safeguard our participants during a cardiac emergency. We are very grateful to CCF and One Beat CPR for this remarkable gift”

As the only national organization to focus on all types of pediatric cardiomyopathy, CCF makes protecting children from sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) a top priority. Cardiomyopathy is the leading cause of SCA in youth, and, according to the American Heart Association, for every minute that passes without defibrillation, the chances for survival drop by 7-10 percent. If defibrillation is provided within 5-7 minutes, the survival rate from SCA is as high as 49 percent.

“Thanks to One Beat CPR and their generous donation, CCF was able to host this fun and interactive scavenger hunt for the second summer in a row to raise awareness of AEDs,” says Lisa Yue, founding executive director of CCF. “The Angeles Crest Christian Camp understands the importance of having an AED on hand in case of a cardiac emergency, and we are pleased to have helped make their camp safer.”

“We value our relationship with CCF and appreciate the opportunity to play an integral role in this important initiative,” says Lon Rosen, CEO and Owner of One Beat CPR + AED, distributor of Philips AEDs. “Although we hope the camp never has to use the AED, we are happy it is now readily available on site.”

In addition to organizing awareness-building events such as #mycampAED, CCF encourages cardiac emergency preparedness in educational institutions by supporting legislation to increase awareness among parents, schools and health professionals of pediatric cardiomyopathy and the risk of SCA.

About the Children’s Cardiomyopathy Foundation

The Children’s Cardiomyopathy Foundation (CCF) is a national organization focused on finding causes and cures for all forms of pediatric cardiomyopathy, the leading cause of heart transplants and sudden cardiac arrest in children. CCF started in 2002 with one family’s determination to call attention to this poorly understood heart disease and to take action on the lack of medical progress and public awareness. Since then, CCF has grown into a global community of families, physicians and scientists and has raised more than $8 million for research and education initiatives, family support, and advocacy and awareness measures.
